In the spring of 2020, during the height of the Covid pandemic, the world shut down and nothing was spared (not even Virginia Tech football). Disappointed that alumni and friends couldn't travel to Blacksburg, friends Jen and Dana, decided they would send "a little taste of Blacksburg" to them.

 

When they couldn't find anything suitable to send, they decided to create it! They went around town, gathering iconic, local products to put in care packages for their friends. They began asking around what others would include in a box to represent the New River Valley. The overwhelming answer was: "You can't put Blacksburg in a box!"  The resounding answer was that the New River Valley is all about the people, the mountains, the food and the football! It became a challenge that they were determined to tackle ... and they did!

They began reaching out and collaborating with well-known local businesses and artisans to create The Burg Box. They very quickly realized it was also a way to support other small businesses, while the pandemic prevented people from traveling here and spending money locally. 

​

This simple idea has continued to grow into a sustainable business that has quickly become a go-to gift option for many, locally and out of town. The Burg Box can be customized for corporate gifts and bulk orders. 

 

We are thrilled for Dana as she is returning to her true passion: teaching science in the classroom.  Jennifer continues as the sole owner of The Burg Box, as it grows and expands across the region and state.
